Thematic principles

The following principles have been developed to guide this section and are supplementary to the core principles listed at the beginning of the Management Plan.

  1. Not everything can be preserved. Prioritisation is needed to inform our work, including that of recording what cannot be saved.
  2. Record keeping must be standardised to facilitate access and comprehension, now and in the future.
  3. Promotion and accessibility of information about cultural heritage is good for its long-term future.
  4. The conservation of cultural heritage can also make a positive contribution to the North Pennines economy, to climate change mitigation and biodiversity.
