Measuring progress

This section will present some of the key data for the North Pennines National Landscape, including targets that have been set to help deliver government goals.

In future there will be access to a dashboard which shows updated progress against targets and outcomes, where there is data.

Protected Landscapes Targets and Outcomes Framework (PLTOF)

This framework sets out how Protected Landscapes will meet key goals in the Environment Improvement Plan (EIP) 2023 and how progress will be tracked. The national targets to which the North Pennines National Landscape contributes, and the targets which are apportioned directly to this National Landscape, are set out and identified under the relevant sub-sections below.

30x30

The UK has committed to protect 30% of land and sea for nature by 2030 (30by30), to support the global 30by30 target agreed at the UN Biodiversity Summit (COP15) in 2022.

The UK government has published criteria for land which will count towards this target and is gathering data that will be updated and published annually. Data for the North Pennines National Landscape is set out and identified in the Nature recovery sub-section below.
